Behind the scenes is always my favourite place to be. Most recently, It was backstage at The Adelaide Festival Centre. I was given the opportunity to take photographs of a poignant moment in time for these wonderful performers.
Dusty The Musical is a biopic about the late Dusty Springfield and all those whom she had closest to her. The best part? Dusty’s greatest songs are belted out by the extraordinary Amy Lehpalmer and she is backed up by the incredible talent of Todd McKinney, Virginia Gay and Bayley Carson. Meeting a cast like this behind the scenes only reinforced their incredible chemistry together and thus, their ability to perform to a standard that takes your breath away.
Now, the COSTUMES! My god! I was in dazzlement heaven! Working through the era’s, the costumes AND the wigs had such diversity and mastery in reflecting the time period. It was a visual spectacular!
I used so much hairspray that I feel personally responsible for global warming!
Below are some of the images I was able to snap before the performers headed onto the stage. In black and white, I feel they capture the timelessness of performance, the atmosphere of pure elation and the focus that each person had in doing what they do best.
