Meeting Tziporah Salamon in New York was a dream come true, and I realised that sometimes it just takes an email to connect with a kindred soul who is on the other side of the earth.
Over our e-exchange Tziporah and I found in each other a marvellous connection through extraordinary fashion, the art of dressing and a lust for life that she epitomises now in what are the greatest later years of her life.
We met out front of the Rizzoli book store on 1133 Broadway, I didn’t know at the time but this would be a clue as to our future work together. On this light filled fall New York afternoon, we strolled arm in arm across the city, discovering hole-in-the-wall vintage stores and the divine people who ran them. I found a Merano glass 1920s tassel necklace, a byzantine inspired gold cuff and an exquisite Ikat coat. Amongst all these treasures was the treasure of a friendship I am so grateful for, what fun we had!
To hear her stories – to hear anyones stories of a life well lived is a special and magical gift. To listen, to be inspired and be taken on a journey through the world in her eyes was something incredibly special. I listened hungrily and asked for more detail and stories. Truly, when you meet someone who’s eyes light up just like a childs at the very excitement and gift that life is, you know you have found someone who is just spectacular.
A week later, I had the utter joy of helping shoot a chapter for Tziporah’s upcoming book, The Art of Dressing: Ageless, Timeless, Original Style, to be published by none other than Rizzoli. We met at her gorgeous apartment. Although it was a hot day and we were shooting a masterpiece of a layered look, Tziporah was all class and professionalism, turning it on for my camera. I cannot share the images with you here – you must read the book! But this one above I was able to snap in a quiet moment looking out into the streets that fill me with awe and delight, Oh New York, New York. You make me swoon!
