Reaching a pinnacle of 10 years is no small feat and so this year, OzAsia Festival is bringing it! I am extremely passionate about my city and what it becomes during a festival. It’s cliché, but we are the ‘Festival State’ and you know what? We do it with so much style. In celebration of the extraordinary performers and artists within Asia, the city of Adelaide is illuminated in a lantern lit spectacle! Running from the 17th of September to the 2nd of October, there are myriad opportunities to become enveloped within the festival. The exhibition ‘Ever Blossoming‘ at The Art Gallery of South Australia is certainly something not to be missed, I have had the honour to sitting with it as it blooms and blossoms over seasons, right before my eyes in the most poetic example of algorithm digital art I have ever, ever experienced. From the exhibitions to the performances to the street – cultural diversity thrives here and all you have to do is jump in!
This shoot has been an extraordinary journey for me to create in collaboration with OzAsia. We wanted to showcase the diversity that is alive and seriously vibrant within Adelaide and so, I got to spend some time with some incredible women: Jing Lee, Mihoshi Yamamoto, Christina Yeow and Francesca McMillan. Each of these women were effervescent, exploring a part of their heritage with me through traditional costumes, cooking, colour, ritual and dance. I feel incredibly blessed to have captured these photos as an homage to the immense, multicultural city that I adore and our opportunities to flourish within it.
